WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative John James (MI-10) has shown his support for the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2024 by casting his vote in favor of the legislation. This act contains numerous provisions that will benefit Michigan and the 10th Congressional District.

Speaking about his decision to support the bill, Rep. James emphasized the significance of providing funding for the military. As a combat veteran himself, he understands the importance of supporting the troops. "Not only does this legislation support our troops and their families with a historic 5.2% pay increase, but it also authorizes funding for critical programs that are essential to the work our servicemembers do to protect our nation," said James.

He further highlighted the direct impact this legislation will have on his district, stating, "This legislation also includes $972.4 million for the district. With Selfridge Air National Guard Base and the Detroit Arsenal right in the heart of Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, I will always stand to support our national defense."

The NDAA includes several provisions specifically aimed at benefiting Michigan's 10th Congressional District. These provisions include $224 million for research, development, training & evaluation for the Abrams Modernization Program, $674 million for the Paladin Integrated Management (PIM), $72 million for a Ground Transport Equipment Building at the Detroit Arsenal, and $2.4 million for a manned and unmanned Tactical Vehicle Lab at the Detroit Arsenal.

Additionally, the legislation allocates $24.5 million for the Battle Creek Naval Reserve Center, $72 million for Tomahawk Missiles, $915 million for JASSM Missiles, and $87.7 million for LRASM0 Missiles, among other provisions.

Apart from the specific benefits for Michigan, the NDAA also includes important provisions such as a 5.2% increase in basic pay for military personnel and the extension of recruitment and retention bonuses. It also prohibits the teaching, training, or promotion of critical race theory in the military, freezes DEI hiring and caps pay for any DEI employees, and includes a parents' bill of rights in DoD schools.

Furthermore, the legislation strengthens training and advising for the military forces of Taiwan, in response to the threats made by China.

Rep. James' support for the NDAA demonstrates his commitment to the military and national defense. By voting in favor of this legislation, he is ensuring that the necessary resources are provided to our servicemembers and their families, while also bolstering defense capabilities in Michigan's 10th Congressional District.
