Congressman John James | Rep. John James Official U.S House Headshot
Representative John James, along with Representatives Keith Self and Tom Kean, have collectively sent a letter to the Biden Administration seeking clarification on the reasoning behind the proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export ban.
In the letter, the representatives expressed their concerns over the administration's decision to temporarily pause approvals of LNG exports, citing the impact it has had on the energy sector and international partners. The letter states, “We are writing to express our concerns regarding the recent decision by the White House to implement a temporary pause on the pending approvals of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exports."
Rep. James emphasized the detrimental effects of the export ban, particularly on Michigan, stating, “The proposed LNG export ban hurts all states in America, but none more than my home state of Michigan—where we possess one-eighth of the nation’s total LNG storage." He criticized the administration for prioritizing "climate alarmist influencers ahead of the American people."
Similarly, Rep. Self raised concerns about the ban jeopardizing American energy security and economic interests, stating, “Biden’s radical LNG export ban jeopardizes American energy security, economic interests, and adds to geopolitical disruptions."
Rep. Kean also expressed his discontent with the freeze on U.S. LNG export sites, highlighting the negative impact on the economy, jobs, and energy independence. He emphasized the superiority of American LNG in terms of cleanliness and efficiency compared to natural gas from other countries, criticizing the administration for harming Americans with their decision.
The representatives are eagerly awaiting a response from Under Secretary Fernandez regarding the concerns raised in their letter. The full content of the letter can be accessed for further details on the matter.
