WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative John James (MI-10) has voted in favor of a 45-day resolution to avert a government shutdown and ensure the security of the country's borders. James' decision was motivated by the need to protect service members, particularly those stationed at Selfridge, from missing their paychecks.
Yesterday, James had voted in support of a measure aimed at averting a shutdown, securing borders, and creating a debt commission to address reckless federal spending. However, the proposal failed to gain sufficient support due to Democrats and what James referred to as "unserious Republicans."
"Yesterday, I voted to avert a shutdown, secure our borders, and create a debt commission to curb reckless federal spending. That failed due to Democrats and unserious Republicans. Today, I voted to secure our borders, to ensure our service members, particularly those at Selfridge, don’t miss a paycheck and to give our House majority forty five days to continue passing conservative appropriations bills," said James. "Democrats caused a needless fire drill during this process, literally. But Republicans focused on governing, and we got the job done. Mission first, people always."While expressing frustration with the political dynamics that hindered the previous proposal, James emphasized that the focus should always be on the well-being of the American people and the successful execution of their mission.
The resolution passed today gives the House majority forty-five days to continue passing conservative appropriations bills, ensuring the smooth functioning of the government and avoiding a shutdown.
