WASHINGTON, D.C. – Late last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the House Appropriations bill on Defense, bringing good news for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District. Representative John James (MI-10) successfully secured three amendments in the bill that will directly benefit the district.
The first amendment increases the capacity by $122.6 million to build eight additional F-15EX fighter jets, which will be stationed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. This expansion will not only strengthen national security but also contribute to the growth of Michigan's economy.
Furthermore, the bill includes an investment of $15 million in a hypersonic testing facility at Selfridge. This state-of-the-art facility will enhance research and development capabilities, positioning Michigan as a leader in hypersonic technology.
In addition to that, the legislation allocates $10 million to update the transmission for Army ground vehicles. This funding will support next-generation capabilities and ensure that our armed forces remain equipped with the latest advancements.
Representative John James emphasized the significance of these appropriations, stating, "Growing Michigan’s economy and strengthening national security are among my top priorities. There is no better way to serve both than by investing in the Arsenal of Innovation and Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Michigan is shorted billions in defense spending each year, and it’s our community that pays the price! The nearly $150 million in House Defense Appropriations I just secured is the first step in the right direction. I will keep fighting for our district in Washington like I fought for our nation in war."
The bill also includes other noteworthy provisions, such as a historic 30% pay increase for junior-enlisted service members, investments in cooperation with our allies in the Indo-Pacific region, and an increased capacity to counter China. Representative James voted in favor of this comprehensive legislation.
