Rep. John James, a U.S. Congressman representing Michigan's 10th District since 2023, posted a series of messages on social media commemorating significant anniversaries and expressing gratitude to military service members.

On November 10, 2025, Rep. James reflected on the anniversary of a maritime tragedy: "50 years ago today, the Edmund Fitzgerald was lost on Lake Superior - one of the darkest nights in Great Lakes history. I’m proud to co-lead a resolution honoring the 29 crew members who never made it home, ensuring their legacy lives on. Michigan will never forget."

Later that day, he marked another milestone with a tribute to the United States Marine Corps: "250 years strong! The Few, The Proud — always faithful, always ready, on land, at sea, and in the air. Thank you @USMC for your courage, service, and for leading from the front. Happy birthday and Semper Fi! " This message coincided with the Marine Corps' annual birthday celebration.

On Veterans Day itself—November 11—James acknowledged all who have served in the armed forces: "On Veterans Day, we say thank you to all who have served this great nation. Today and every day, we remember the sacrifices made by those who defend our freedom and liberty. To those who served and to those still serving - thank you. You are what makes this the greatest"

The sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald remains one of Lake Superior’s most well-known disasters; it occurred on November 10, 1975 when all 29 crew members perished during a storm.

John James was born in Detroit in 1981 and currently resides in Farmington Hills.
