Rep. John James, who has represented Michigan’s 10th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently posted a series of statements on social media regarding the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on Michigan residents.

On November 5, 2025, Rep. James addressed the human impact of the shutdown in a tweet: "The government shutdown is hurting real people in need and it must end.

In Michigan, neighbors are stepping up to help neighbors. Outlaw Smoke BBQ in Fraser is offering free food to those who have been impacted by the shutdown.

Later that day, he criticized Senate Democrats’ role in continuing the shutdown: "In Sept, Republicans and I voted to keep the government open. Since then, Senate Democrats have voted 14 times to continue the shutdown they started.

As a result the FAA’s preparing to slow air travel. Michigan families and travelers will be the ones paying the price.

Two days later, on November 7, Rep. James reiterated his concerns about prolonged consequences for citizens: "Democrats have voted 14 times to keep the government shutdown.

The result? Families in need without food assistance, troops unpaid, flights cancelled, and missed paychecks for federal workers.

This shutdown is unnecessarily hurting the American people. Michigan: call your https://t.co/MDbRYV6jhO" (posted November 7, 2025).

John James was born in Detroit in 1981 and currently resides in Farmington Hills at age 41. As a congressman from Michigan’s Tenth District since January 2023, he has focused on issues affecting local communities during periods of federal gridlock.

The current government shutdown has led local businesses like Outlaw Smoke BBQ in Fraser to offer support for affected residents as federal services remain disrupted.
