GREAT NEWS! The city of Warren worked in conjunction with Attorney General Dana Nessel to achieve a victory against drug manufacturers responsible for the opioid crisis gripping our city, state, and country. The settlement will provide $4 million to the residents of Warren. This is great news, but once again the Warren city council is trying to turn this great victory into a negative because their law firm PLUNKETT COONEY isn’t getting paid a fee for the settlement. I applaud the previous city council for initiating the case and the work of city attorney Ethan Vinson for managing Warren’s interest along with attorney general Dana Nessel and Macomb County law firm Kirk and Huth. Ethan Vinson accomplished all of this despite the fact that the city council illegally fired him as the city council attorney replacing him with Plunkett Cooney, treating him as a second-class citizen, refusing to allow him to speak outside of audience participation during council meetings, continuously disparaging him in derogatory and dismissive terms, and standing in the way of Mr. Vinson doing his job. It’s time for city council to stop focusing on a process that worked and start focusing on how we put these funds to work to benefit our community and victims of opioid addiction!
