Today, President Donald J. Trump signed into law the Clean Truck Congressional Review Act (CRA), a piece of legislation authored by U.S. Congressman John James from Michigan's 10th district. The new law aims to reverse emissions regulations set by the Biden administration that were considered detrimental to America's trucking industry and small businesses.
The CRA nullifies an Environmental Protection Agency rule that would have increased the cost of diesel trucks by up to $42,000 each. Congressman James argued that this rule would have negatively impacted independent truckers and small businesses, potentially leading them to financial ruin.
"This is what leadership looks like," stated Congressman James. "Washington Elites said it couldn’t be done, but with President Trump’s signature we’ve made good on our promise to protect our jobs, lower prices, defend our supply chains, and keep Democrats' radical Green New Deal agenda out of the driver’s seat."
The legislation passed in the House on April 30th and was approved by the Senate on May 22nd. It faced opposition from environmental groups and bureaucrats who supported maintaining the emission mandates.
James emphasized his personal connection to the trucking industry: "My father got his start fighting harmful government regulation on trucking. Now, his son has defeated harmful government regulation on trucking." He described this as a significant victory for workers who are essential to keeping America running smoothly.
