Representative John James of Michigan's 10th Congressional District has announced the successful acquisition of a $244,608 grant for the Sterling Heights Police Department. This funding is allocated for the Fiscal Year 2024 Collaborative Crisis Response and Intervention Training Program. The program aims to provide officers with comprehensive training in crisis intervention techniques, de-escalation strategies, and mental health awareness.

Rep. James expressed his views on the importance of this grant: "As a combat veteran, I’ve seen how training and proper resources can save lives. I know the critical importance of investing in training programs for law enforcement, particularly in the realm of crisis intervention and mental health response. Our men and women in blue are heroes, and I will always support them in their mission to protect our communities. This grant will help to keep both our officers and our communities safe and secure."

The grant aligns with Rep. James' dedication to addressing what he describes as a "hopelessness crisis." It also complements legislative efforts like his "Reignite Hope Act," which proposes tax credits for essential workers, including police officers, along with making permanent certain expiring provisions related to the child tax credit.
