As Congress returns for its session, Representative John James from Michigan's 10th District is advocating for a series of legislative measures aimed at aligning Washington with the standards observed by the rest of America. These initiatives include four bills and resolutions designed to enhance accountability and efficiency in government operations.

The first proposal, known as the "Money Where Our Mouths Are Act," aims to ensure that politicians do not receive salaries during a government shutdown if they are not performing their duties. This measure reflects a principle commonly applied in private employment, where employees who fail to work do not get paid.

Additionally, Rep. James has introduced the RETIRE Resolution (Relaxation, Enjoyment, Time for Inner Reflection, and Exploration). This resolution seeks to amend the United States Constitution to prohibit individuals from running for presidential or congressional offices if they would turn 75 years old during their term.

Another constitutional amendment proposed by Rep. James is the New Generation Resolution. It intends to limit congressional service terms to no more than 18 years for both Senators and Representatives.

Furthermore, the Federal Accountability Imperative to Reform (FAIR) Hiring Act has been put forward by Rep. James. This act proposes hiring practices focused on performance while also giving the President greater control over career staff appointments within his administration.

In discussing these legislative efforts, Rep. John James stated: “The world isn’t getting slower; it’s getting faster. The world isn’t getting safer; it’s getting more dangerous. That’s why it’s essential that our government, elected officials, and administrative offices are firing on all cylinders,” adding that his experience as CEO taught him about the necessity of modernization and competitiveness for maintaining relevance.
