Representative John James of Michigan's 10th Congressional District has cast his vote in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024. The legislation aims to enhance national defense, counter China's influence, and bolster the defense industrial base. Notably, it includes a significant pay raise for junior-enlisted service members.

Two amendments introduced by Rep. James were incorporated into the NDAA:

- Amendment No. 1074 seeks to expand capacity for additional F-15EX fighters to replace A-10 squadrons at bases like Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Rep. James, a strong advocate for Selfridge, had earlier testified before the House Rules Committee for its inclusion.

- Amendment No. 1484 mandates a joint assessment by the Departments of Defense and State on constraints affecting the defense supply chain, focusing on weapons manufacturing and foreign military sales.

Both amendments received unanimous approval.

Regarding Amendment No. 1074, which could potentially bring $30.6 million in development to Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, Rep. James stated: “Bringing the F-15EX mission to Selfridge as well as increasing our capacity to project combat power by solidifying our industrial base is vital to our national interest. It is also in the interest of Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, where Selfridge plays a central role in our local economy,” said James. “I will continue to fight for this key base and I am encouraged by this monumental step towards strengthening Selfridge Air National Guard Base.”
