Representative John James of Michigan's 10th Congressional District recently appeared on Fox Business with Maria Bartiromo. During the interview, he discussed several pressing issues, including President Joe Biden's decision to send 3,000 reserve troops to Europe amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and concerns about dwindling American munitions.
James emphasized the need for a well-defined mission to safeguard national interests both domestically and internationally. "Simply saying you’re going to hold Russia accountable and stand by Ukraine is not enough. We need a clearly-articulated mission to make sure that we can protect our interests at home and abroad. We must do both, and our homeland defenses cannot be put on the backburner. Defending America first must be our number-one priority," he stated.
The conversation also touched upon the Chinese Communist Party's aggressive stance and the Biden administration's push towards electric vehicles, which James believes could negatively impact Michigan's auto industry. He remarked, "Making sure we focus more on building things here in America, maintaining peace through our economic and manufacturing strength, making sure that we’re healthy to move forward—that’s what we need to be focused on. Not necessarily mortgaging our future to make Biden look good on the world stage."
In legislative efforts, Rep. James introduced the BRIDGE to DRC Act aimed at securing U.S. supply chains for critical minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), crucial for electric vehicle production. Earlier this year, he also sponsored an amendment for a National Strategy to Re-Shore Mineral Supply Chains as part of a Republican energy package.
