Today, Representative John James convened a school safety roundtable in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The meeting brought together school administrators, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and community leaders to discuss potential solutions for enhancing school safety at various governmental levels.

Rep. James emphasized the personal importance of this issue due to his role as a parent. "As the father of three school-aged boys, the issue of school safety is extremely personal to me. Like many parents, I worry for our kids’ well-being every day," he stated. He further expressed his commitment to addressing both the root causes and practical deterrence strategies related to school violence. "I’m grateful for today’s productive conversation and the input from those who attended," he added.

In addition to organizing the roundtable, Rep. James has been active in legislative efforts related to school safety. He has advocated for increased funding for the STOP School Violence Act for Fiscal Year 2024 and co-sponsored the School Guardian Act. This act proposes a block grant program managed by the U.S. Attorney General aimed at funding law enforcement presence in every K-12 school nationwide.

Rep. James is also considering leading an initiative similar to Senate legislation called the “Protecting Kids on Social Media Act.” This effort would address minors' social media usage, which is identified as a significant factor in mental health issues among young people.
