John James, the representative for Michigan's 10th district, visited the Shelby Senior Center to discuss a significant funding initiative. The center is set to receive $1,500,000 through Community Project Funding as part of the House Appropriations bills. This funding will support improvements at the facility without increasing overall spending levels.

The planned enhancements include constructing an 8,700 square foot gym and additional program and activity spaces. These upgrades aim to ensure that the center can continue serving local residents effectively.

In his statement, Rep. James expressed his commitment to improving conditions for seniors: “It was a delight to meet with residents and staff at the Shelby Senior Center today. Our seniors deserve quality care and environments in which they can thrive. I’ll always work to improve conditions for our seniors and deliver for our communities,” he said.

Rep. James has consistently advocated for older Americans throughout his tenure. His first congressional bill was the "Protecting Social Security and Medicare Act," designed to protect Social Security, Medicare, and veteran benefits from debt ceiling negotiations.
