Representative John James (MI-10) and Representative Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) have introduced the U.S.-South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The purpose of this legislation is to conduct a comprehensive review of the bilateral relationship between the United States and South Africa, in light of South Africa's recent alignment and cooperation with countries that are considered adversaries of the United States.

In a statement, Rep. James expressed his pride in leading the U.S.-South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act with his Democratic colleague Rep. Moskowitz. He highlighted South Africa's growing ties with countries such as China and Russia, which he believes undermine America's national security and way of life. He also mentioned South Africa's support of U.S.-designated terrorist organization Hamas.

Rep. James emphasized the need to prioritize America's energy security and national security. He criticized the current administration for what he sees as a prioritization of alliances with countries like China and Russia, which leaves allies and partners dependent on dictators and despots for critical needs such as energy. Rep. James believes that it is necessary to reassess and potentially disengage from alliances with countries that collaborate with America's adversaries.

The U.S.-South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act aims to address these concerns by conducting a thorough evaluation of the relationship between the United States and South Africa. This review will help determine the extent to which South Africa's actions and partnerships pose a threat to America's national security and way of life.

The introduction of this legislation reflects a growing concern among lawmakers about the implications of South Africa's foreign policy decisions. By initiating this review, Rep. James and Rep. Moskowitz are seeking to ensure that the United States maintains alliances and partnerships that align with its national security interests.
