Reps. John James and Debbie Dingell have introduced a resolution to designate February 4th as "National Cancer Prevention Day." The resolution aims to raise awareness about the importance of cancer prevention and the need for collective action to combat this deadly disease.
Representative James emphasized the significance of a healthy America in his statement, stating, "Not only is a healthy America a strong America – it’s vital to our national defense." He further highlighted the urgency to address cancer prevention, considering the ongoing challenges the military faces in recruitment and retention, as well as the continued search for a cure.
Similarly, Representative Dingell acknowledged the widespread impact of cancer on American families, stating, "Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, and nearly every family has been touched by cancer in some way." She stressed the importance of raising awareness about preventable cancers and the role of research and individual actions in reducing its prevalence.
Both Representatives James and Dingell are co-chairs of the Congressional Cancer Prevention Caucus, which aims to educate policymakers on effective strategies for cancer prevention. This resolution aligns with their mission and seeks to mobilize communities in the fight against cancer.
