Due to heavy rainfall and saturated ground, residents in Warren, Michigan are facing flooding in their basements. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Macomb County, prompting the city to take immediate action. Warren's storm water and sewer basins are already at capacity, and the pump station is running at full capacity. The city's Public Service Director is coordinating a response with the Water and Waste Water Departments, and the Warren Emergency Response has been mobilized.

Mayor Stone has reached out to the Macomb County Public Works Director to request additional assistance to address the flooding situation. However, officials acknowledge that this is a severe rain event that can only be alleviated with time.

In response to the flooding, residents are urged to report their addresses to the Warren Water Department or the Mayor's Office. They can do so via Q-Alert or by calling the respective numbers provided. Additionally, residents can request a flood clean-up kit from the Red Cross by filling out a form on their website.

To prevent further damage, residents are advised to take certain measures if flooding occurs in their homes or areas:

- Move objects away from basement drains.

- Remove valuables from the basement.

- Elevate items off the basement floor.

- Store items in waterproof containers.

- Check storm drain grates near homes to ensure they are clear of debris.

- Exercise caution with water and electricity, as they do not mix. Contact DTE or a licensed electrician to temporarily disconnect or shut off electrical service in flood-prone areas.

If there is no water present in the lower levels or basement of a property with a history of flooding, residents can consider turning off the electricity at the panel to eliminate the risk of fire or electrocution. However, it is recommended to contact a licensed electrician if unsure. Any electrical devices connected to an outlet in flood-prone areas should be disconnected.

Furthermore, residents are advised to contact a licensed electrician before restoring electrical service in flooded areas to ensure there is no damage to the electrical system. All electrical devices that have been exposed to water should be considered damaged and replaced.

The Warren Water Department provides helpful tips to prevent overflows during a rainstorm, and residents are encouraged to sign up for Warren CAN for further updates and information.

As the city of Warren deals with the aftermath of this severe rain event, it is important for residents to take necessary precautions and communicate any issues or needs to the appropriate authorities. The city is actively working to address the flooding and provide assistance to affected residents.
