Representative John James (MI-10) and a group of Republican colleagues recently made a trip to the United States-Mexico border in Eagle Pass, Texas. During their visit, they received a briefing from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, met with local stakeholders, and toured the border with officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Upon returning from Texas, Rep. James expressed his deep concern about the situation at the border. He stated, "What I witnessed on our southern border was simultaneously heartbreaking and infuriating. We saw military-aged males crossing the river in broad daylight—right in front of us—while we were there talking with Border Patrol."

Rep. James criticized the Biden Administration's border policies, claiming that they force officials to trust migrants' claims about their identity and origin without proper verification. He emphasized the potential threat this poses to national security, stating, "The reality is we have no idea who's in our country." He specifically singled out DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, accusing him of refusing to implement existing laws to ensure the safety of Americans. Rep. James pledged to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable for his actions.

This visit to the southern border is part of Rep. James' ongoing efforts to address the border issue. He has been particularly concerned about the impact of lethal drugs in Michigan's Tenth District and the significant increase in crossings on the U.S.-Canada border, which have risen by 500%. Seven months ago, Rep. James joined the House Republican majority in voting to pass H.R.2, the Secure the Border Act, demonstrating his commitment to finding solutions to border security.
