SHELBY TWP, MI — On August 10, 2023, John James (MI-10) met with leaders at the Shelby Senior Center to discuss the inclusion of $1,500,000 in Community Project Funding in the House Appropriations bills to fund improvements to the facility. Community Project Funding requests made by Members of Congress are allocated within their respective federal agency program accounts and do not raise overall spending levels.

Proposed upgrades include the construction of an 8,700 square foot gym along with crucial program and activity spaces that would enable the center to continue serving residents.

Rep. James released the following statement upon the announcement:

“It was a delight to meet with residents and staff at the Shelby Senior Center today. Our seniors deserve quality care and environments in which they can thrive. I’ll always work to improve conditions for our seniors and deliver for our communities,” James said.

Rep. James has a strong track record of advocating for older Americans. The very first bill he introduced to Congress was the “Protecting Social Security and Medicare Act,” which shielded Social Security, Medicare, and veteran benefits from debt ceiling negotiations.
