WASHINGTON, D.C. -  On June 15, 2023 , Representative John James (MI-10) kicked off the start of the Congressional App Challenge. The competition seeks to foster an interest in computer science, coding, and STEM by encouraging middle and high school students to create their own apps.

Winning apps will be displayed in the United States Capitol Building and featured on the House of Representatives’ website, House.gov. Winners will also be invited to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C.

“Ten years ago, my good friend and former Congresswoman Candice Miller spearheaded the creation of the Congressional App Challenge. Today, I’m proud to carry on her legacy by encouraging our students in Michigan’s 10th District to get creative and invent the apps of tomorrow,” James said. “Technical education will be essential to maintaining America’s economic edge and bolstering our national security. I look forward to seeing the app ideas that students in my district create.”

Entries are being accepted now through November 1, 2023. Register, create, and submit apps at CongressionalAppChallenge.us.

Contact Lisa.Brown@mail.house.gov for questions regarding the application process.
