Warren Council USES SCARE TACTICS to derail project which will NOT spread PFAS pollutants

WWTP Director Bryan Clor has worked to eliminate harmful contaminants such as PFAS in order to replace our 50+ year old incinerator with a new 2022 ONE, which will provide the following benefits:

A) Eliminate 99% of PFAS pollutants

B) Reduce carbon emissions by 90%

C) Not allow biosolids from the plante to be used for fertilization of crops and other such uses*

D) Reduce natural gas usage by 95%

E) Save Warren $546,000 in natural gas usage per year

F) Generate 200 KW of electricity

G) Eliminate other pollutants by 114%

H) This is safer and cleaner than what either the state or federal government recommends! Thus, we will have higher and safer standards than recommended.

Council Myths:

1) The city did not need council approval to appeal a ruling by EGLE against funding for this project. This was an administrative appeal not a lawsuit!

2) Council was given the information for the past two years in the 2021 budget and the current 2022 budget.

3) Council was also hand-delivered all of the information in a large pamphlet last spring. Council falsely claims they did not get the information despite the fact that the council referred to the pages given to them in Tuesday’s council meeting. Hand-delivered from their office!

*The state of Michigan via EGLE wants the waste treatment refuse to be used as they call it “Land Application to Bio Solids” this could and I believe would contaminate crops causing vital vegetables such as lettuce and corn to absorb PFAS. This process has failed in Maine** and parts of Europe resulting in pollution of crops. Now banned in Europe and not good results in Maine. Why would anybody not prefer a process that has closed burning of PFAS rather than distribute on our farmlands as fertilizer. Do you want to consume waste that comes from humans AND chemicals such as PFAS as part of your dinner table? I think not! I prefer not to gamble with the health of Michigan residents, including Warren residents on a process that has met with failure and pollution! This could become another PBB issue!

**Council could have called for a committee of the whole meeting with Bryan Clor any time after at the May 10 meeting to understand this process, which they did approve unanimously!
