Mayor Signs Emergency Purchase Order to Clean Up Parks

A solution without sound and fury!

I will be signing an emergency purchase order for $1.7 million to fund needed Warren Parks Maintenance. The City Council has again chosen to ignore repeated requests for funding of Warren Parks. Since the new City Council took over in 2019 we have requested much needed renovation of the parks including a new Skateboard Park. Including the following requests:

1) 2019 Council tabled my request for a park restoration and cleanup plan

2) 2021 Council again failed to act on a proposed $3.5 million dollar renovation plan

3) 2022 Council again failed to act in a timely fashion on a proposal for a 5.6 million dollar renovation and improvement plan.

The council majority for whatever reason has chosen to do nothing rather than doing something about park clean up and restoration. At each council meeting, they complain about the parks and other issues blaming this administration and myself for their failure to act. The inaction of this council is moving the city backwards when the recent census indicated that Warren is moving forward with the first population increase since 1970.

I’m getting increased complaints about weeds, dangerous play structures and subpar bathrooms. All of which could have been fixed had the council chosen to act on my request in November of 2019. Parks have become an essential service for many Warren residents both young and old. This emergency order will go a long way toward making our parks safe, comfortable for young, and old. Note: Council has failed to vote on the proposed Town center for over one year. Now that it is too late, I hope they will not block my emergency purchase order before it is too late to keep youngsters from injury at the parks. Under this council, many important improvements for our citizens are placed on the back burner in order to focus on more frequent, cumbersome and costly lawsuits on behalf of their outside illegal legal counsel. Note: Council does a dramatic job of complaining without accepting a solution. Simply put it is more sound and fury with nothing else.

Sincerely,

Mayor James R. Fouts
