The unspeakable tragedy in Texas yesterday reminds me of how important it is to pause and think about how we can help our children and our community. First, at wcskids.net, we have added a tip sheet for parents to talk with their children about school community shootings along with information on mental health resources available for families.
I have found this information to be very helpful in difficult times. Second, my experience tells me that one of the most important things we can do tonight is turn off our TVs and cell phones and spend time talking with our children.
Although it may be difficult, limiting media coverage can help reduce stress and anxiety in our children and ourselves. Please know the WCS Security & Crisis Management Team is ensuring our counseling response protocols are in place to help students and staff. If you have any questions or need support, please contact your child’s school.
