Warren Civic Center Library was selected through a competitive application process to be part of NASA @ My Library, an education initiative created to increase and enhance STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) learning opportunities for library patrons throughout the nation, including geographic areas and populations currently underrepresented in STEAM education.
As a NASA @ My Library partner, the library received four circulating telescopes through grant funding and a generous donation from the Grosse Pointe Public Library. In partnership with the Warren Astronomical Society, the Warren Civic Center Library will offer telescope events throughout the year, as well as the opportunity to check out the telescope and use it to view the night sky at home. Each Warren Public Library branch will offer a telescope for Warren patrons to check out with a valid library card.
The Library Telescope program began in 2008 to give greater access of telescopes and to check them out at public libraries, just as books are checked out. For more information about this national initiative, please visit https://www.librarytelescope.org/
