A Warren police officer has come under fire from Amazon for the arrest of a Black delivery driver who had parked the wrong way on the street, amid reports that the driver refused multiple requests for his license and ultimately resisted arrest by the white officer.

According to reporting by Fox Business News, the company has said it wants "full accountability" in the incident, which involved a driver working for an Amazon delivery service provider.

"We see what others see in this video, and it's unacceptable," an Amazon spokesperson told Fox Business in a statement. "We expect a swift investigation and full accountability for those involved. Amazon will deploy all necessary resources to investigate the matter with our delivery service provider, as well as to represent and support the driver."

The Detroit News reported that Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer has said the incident is under investigation.

Dwyer painted a picture in which a request by the officer for the license of the driver of an illegally parked vehicle escalated as the driver refused to cooperate.

"The officer had a legal reason to contact the driver, as he was parked illegally," Dwyer told The Detroit News. "The officer attempted to speak to the driver, informed him of the violation and requested his driver's license. The driver became argumentative and refused multiple requests for his license."

After asking the driver for his license 11 times, the officer attempted to arrest the driver, Dwyer said.

"The driver wouldn't comply and a struggle ensued," Dwyer told The Detroit News. "The officer took the driver to the ground to gain control of him for everyone's safety and before the situation escalated further."

The driver was charged with resisting arrest, failure to obey a lawful command and failure to produce a driver's license.

Dwyer said that the department will send the charges against the driver to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for review.

Warren Mayor James Fouts took to social media immediately after the incident became public, posting that he had ordered the officer's immediate termination.

"The policy of the Warren Police Department and the training provided to every officer is to deescalate every situation," Fouts posted to Facebook. "This officer did not follow policy or his training and is not fit to serve the citizens in Warren."

However, within a half hour, Fouts had deleted his post, apparently walking back his statement.

"The previous post regarding an altercation was taken down at the request of the Warren Police Commissioner," Fouts posted on Facebook, according to The Detroit News. "I await further details based upon additional information. I received several phone calls earlier regarding this incident, requiring me to make a statement that any type of aggressive behavior is not tolerated. I was upset that one individual could possibly besmirch the fine reputation of Warren police officers."
