The Macomb County Board of Commissioners transited traditional its forums to virtual meetings as members try to stay safe and healthy while continuing their jobs during COVID-19.
On March 28, Macomb County was the first public body in Michigan to hold a virtual board meeting through a software program called the Macomb County Agenda Management System (MCAMS), according to Macomb Daily.
The program allows board members to submit agendas and requests virtually, while at home, the Macomb Daily reported. The platform also allows residents to watch and participate in the meetings.
To participate in virtual meetings, county residents have to follow etiquette rules, which allows individuals to speak on a first-come-first-serve basis, according to Macomb Daily.
Since the order allowing virtual board meetings was passed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Macomb County has had two virtual meetings, according to Macomb Daily. Both meetings had over five times the normal audience of an in-person gathering.
