According to Macomb Daily, there are myths circulating about the 2020 U.S. Census. To debunk these myths, Macomb County officials are hosting a town hall meeting on Tuesday, March 3. They are planning on a large turnout and hoping they can educate Macomb County voters.
The event will be located in Clinton Township, where Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II (D) will be speaking. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) will speak as well.
The town hall panel is set to include Michigan Statewide Census Director Kerry Ebersole Singh, and the event will be backed by a team of civic and business leaders. The aim is to highlight the importance of creating an accurate Census result. They will also highlight the benefits the Census can bring to the community.
Gilchrist commented on the event in a recent press release. “The Census matters because it’s an opportunity for our state to show our strength in numbers,” he said. “Each neighborhood and city is built upon the strong foundation of the people who live there. That’s why we are visiting communities around the state to remind everyone to ‘Be Counted,” Gilchrist added, according to Macomb Daily.
The town hall will be held at 4 p.m. at the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) offices at 44001 Garfield Road in Clinton Township. The town hall is free and open to the public.
