Rep. John James, who has represented Michigan's 10th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, used his social media platform to criticize Democrats for their handling of the ongoing government shutdown in October 2025.
On October 8, James posted: "The time for petty political games is over. Americans are suffering because Democrats care more about 'standing up to Trump' than standing up for you. Democrats must do the right thing for the American people and end their Schumer Shutdown now."
Two days later, on October 10, he escalated his criticism by stating: "Democrats are saying the quiet part out loud: They don't care if our troops miss paychecks, and they won't end their shutdown until planes are falling from the sky. Dems are shutting down the government and hurting Americans solely for political theater."
Later that same day, James assured constituents that his office would remain operational despite the shutdown: "Despite the Democrat Shutdown, my office remains open to constituents in need. If you are a service member, federal law enforcement officer, or anyone impacted by the shutdown, please visit my website below to find resources and financial assistance available"
John James was born in Detroit in 1981 and currently resides in Farmington Hills at age 41.
