Representative John James (MI-10) has been appointed to the esteemed House Energy and Commerce Committee, marking the first time a freshman member has been selected for this role since 2011. This significant appointment positions Rep. James to address crucial national matters such as healthcare, energy, and technology, with a specific focus on benefiting Southeast Michigan.

In response to his selection, Rep. James expressed his dedication to representing his district, stating, “Michigan’s Tenth Congressional District is the arsenal of democracy and the number-one manufacturing district in America. Southeast Michigan is the epicenter of the American automotive, supply chain, research and development, and advanced manufacturing industries, and it is essential that we have representation on the Energy and Commerce Committee.”

Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers commended Rep. James on his appointment, emphasizing the value of his background as a veteran and businessman. She stated, “I welcome his experience and perspective as a veteran and businessman as we continue working to deliver solutions to improve the lives of the American people.”

The significance of Michigan's representation within the Energy and Commerce Committee was highlighted, with references to past chairmen from the state. Both John Dingell and Fred Upton have held leadership positions in the committee, emphasizing the historical and ongoing contribution of Michigan representatives.

As the committee addresses a wide range of critical issues, the words of John Dingell were referenced, stating, “If it moves, it’s energy. If it doesn’t, it’s commerce.” Rep. James' diverse background and expertise position him to make meaningful contributions to the committee's work, particularly in advancing Michigan's economy and supporting American energy production.
