In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has implemented a new set of restrictions on both individuals and businesses.
These restrictions ban specific activities, limit group sizes and regulate business hours. Aside from the legal challenges that are likely to arise from the Republican-held state Legislature, many are criticizing the restrictions because they appear to contain some questionable logic.
For instance, a restriction earlier this year asserted that people could enjoy activities on nonmotorized watercraft but could not use motorized boats. In this new round of restrictions, residents are allowed to enjoy skiing, but indoor and outdoor skating rinks must remain closed, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential. It is this type of contradiction that many Michigan residents are growing frustrated with.
As the new restrictions go into effect, the governor is preparing for a lengthy legal battle, after some of her actions earlier this year have already been struck down as unconstitutional by the Michigan Supreme Court.
