Warren De La Salle responds to hazing allegations

Warren De La Salle Collegiate last month issued a statement responding to recent allegations and charges alleging that the high school destroyed evidence and purposely slowed law enforcement’s investigation into hazing.

For the last several months, Fox 2 Detroit reports the Warren Police Department has been investigating allegations that the school’s football players were hazed by other players using broomsticks.

One student initially gave the school a statement, claiming that he was held down against his will and jabbed, with clothes on, very hard with a broomstick in his rectal area as well as his legs. The allegations led to the school canceling the rest of its football season in late October, sparking much controversy in itself.

However, once law enforcement became involved with the investigation, the student did not cooperate and did not pursue charges, leading to police questioning the school’s integrity and intentions of cooperation.

One day after the St. Clair County Prosecutor's office announced that no charges would be filed, the all-boys Catholic high school issued a lengthy statement:

“In light of our commitment to keep you informed on important items, we wanted to provide you with an update on several issues,” reads the statement. “The past few months have been difficult for our De La Salle Collegiate community. We have sought to cooperate with the prosecutor’s office and law enforcement authorities at all levels and with all things. We continue to appreciate how difficult their work is and will continue to cooperate fully with them as together we create a safe and positive learning environment.”

“...Thank you for your ongoing support and your commitment to De La Salle. We remain committed to a positive and safe learning environment that allows every student to succeed both in school and in life.”
