Autumn Woods Residential Health held the distinction of being the largest nursing home in Macomb County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility recorded 293 available beds in that period, setting it 149 beds above the county average for nursing homes in the first quarter of 2026. It provided care for an average of 222.6 residents during the quarter.

The overall CMS rating for Autumn Woods Residential Health was 2 out of 5, trailing the 3.2 state average for Michigan nursing homes.

Also during this quarter, Medilodge of Sterling Heights ranked as the second largest nursing home in the county with 248 beds, and Father Murray, a Villa Center, was third with 231 beds.

Autumn Woods Residential Health had no fines or penalties reported in the period ending the first quarter of 2026.

Macomb County, Michigan, recorded a total of 25 for-profit nursing homes as of the first quarter of 2026.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau highlight continued growth in the older adult population nationwide as the number of younger Americans drops. Americans age 65 and older increased by 13% from 2020 to 2024, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The U.S. has seen its older adult population surge dramatically from just 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

Research published in 2021 indicates that almost 28 million older adults—or nearly half of those age 65 and up—may require long-term care, with projections that over one-third may eventually reside in a nursing facility.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an educational organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
